Honduras, in Central America, also has ideal climatic conditions for growing cigar tobacco, a tradition that has existed here for many centuries. The spicy flavours and aromas that characterise this tobacco give Honduran cigars a wide following. Honduras has grown tobacco for centuries. One of the largest of the Central American republics, Honduras is predominantly a plateau of broad fertile plains broken by deep valleys. The climate is tropical, tempered by its mountainous interior. The low lying coastal regions are very warm and humidity is oppressive. The leading Honduras cigar brand was introduced into the UK in 1982, and has been a firm favourite with Brits ever since. On the banks of the Joyoa River, some 20 miles from San Pedro Sula, the Don Ramos factory has stood in the village of Cofradia since 1964. Here, Frank Llaneza and Estelo Padron supervise the hand rolling of these well made, fine flavoured 100% Honduran cigars. |
